Working w/ actors
Need help choosing a monologue for an audition? Want to breath new life into a piece you've performed so many times you forgot what drew you to it in the first place? Maybe you'd like to form a scene study workshop with a few friends? I can help you.

My style of directing is a hands-on approach. Almost all of my training comes from an acting perspective which includes (in varying degrees of experience) Alexander Technique, Linklater Vocal Technique, Shakespeare Analysis,  Feldenkrais Method, Anne Bogart's "Viewpoints", Michael Chekhov Acting Technique, Ensemble Work, Tina Packer's "Dropping In", Stanislavski Method, Meisner Technique, Laban Movement Analysis, Acting for the Camera, Casting Workshops w/ Janet Foster, Contact Improvisation and Basic Clown. I also bring to the table what I've gleaned from my experience in Juggling, Contact Juggling, Stage Combat Training, Destreza, Qigong, Tai-Chi and Yoga.

I pull here and there from any or all of these sources sporadically throughout the process. If you're looking for a "set-in-stone" method with which to approach the work then I am not the coach for you. Each session is dynamic and spontaneous, utilizing whatever tools are available to allow the scene or monologue to flourish. I am interested in people and connecting people to the work. That's what I find interesting as an audience member, scene partner and director. I promise to never be boring.

Testimonials

"For a young dude I was mighty encouraged to have direction at such a professional, insightful and ingenious level."
            -- Michelle Kafel

"I love working with Jesse because I can bring him material at any point in my process, whether it's early on, and I'm just hurling mud at the wall and seeing what sticks, or when I've been working with it for a while and just need to smooth out the finer points; he's always willing to get right in wherever I am and go from there."
            -- Mia Van De Water

"He challenges, invigorates and enlightens his actors to reach their maximal potential on the first day of rehearsals individually and collectively, and doesn't stop pushing you until closing night. He has the wild excitement of a kid in a candy store, but he shares that energy with careful discipline and we all feel wiser because of it."

Monologue Coaching -$40/hr
We'll assess the state of the monologue as is and briefly discuss your relationship with it; then we tear it apart and put it back together. If you don't have a piece in mind this time will be spent finding the monologue that's right for you and getting it on it's feet.

Shakespeare Workshop - $40/hr monologue - $70/hr scene, an additional $20 per person added (6 max)
Using a mixture of Linklater, Packer and personal flair we will mine the text mentally, vocally and physically. Dress for movement. Expect to sweat.

Scene Study - $70/hr for 2 persons, an additional $20 per person added (10 max)
I let you run the scene once through, and then we find the best way to tackle the scene. Usually two or three person scenes. In the case of multiple scenes in one session we'll treat it as a workshop with participants gaining just as much from giving feedback as receiving it.
